Corran

A complete back-to-stone-walls refurbishment of a cottage on West Shore Street in Ullapool, with views across Loch Broom and out to the Summer Isles.

The existing flat-roofed garage was demolished to make way for a new addition inspired by boat-shed vernacular, to provide living, dining and kitchen spaces, connected to the original house by a minimal link corridor. The client sought to create additional living space while maintaining the character of the original cottage, and respecting the surrounding context. These new living spaces were designed and delivered despite the house sitting within Ullapool’s conservation area.
